# Old Chats Are Lost Learnings

**Every AI chat holds an insight. It rots in the chat window.**

Every chat with an AI, whether ChatGPT, Claude or another tool, ends with an insight, a decision or a solved problem. And then it disappears into the history.

Most of us have hundreds of these chats. Almost none of them are ever found again. So six months later we ask the same question again.

It is the same anti-pattern as knowledge in Slack channels: it exists, but nobody finds it.

The fix is not to keep chats. The fix is to keep the essence, as a **learning**:

- After every relevant chat: what is the one thing I want to know next time?
- Decide: is this just for me, or does it help the team?
- Going through old chats and extracting learnings? That kind of grind is exactly what an agent can do.

**The lesson:** The chat is the path, the learning is the result. Keep the result.
